Regardless of whether the plaintiff uses an online divorce service or arranges a straight up DIY divorce, the cost of any divorce starts with the court filing fee. This fee is charged when the plaintiff files the divorce petition.
In Michigan, the filing fee for a divorce varies between $175 and $250, depending on the county.
Those plaintiffs who lack the money to pay the fee have the right to request a fee waiver. In some cases, the court can order the second spouse to pay this cost.
